Kalighat Pot Painting emerged during 18 C British era, around Kalighat Temple in Calcutta. Local Artists (Potuas) created this style to story-tell beautiful relationships & imaginary livelihood of Hindu Gods & Goddesses.
Handful of new generation Potuas are still practicing this painting in the villages of Midnapore, West Bengal and keeping this lost art alive !!
Painted on Cotton Handmade Paper sheet, these talented Potuas use organic & earthy colour palettes which evokes nostalgia & essence of folk art.
